Kenyan nanny Roseline ‘Rosie’ Atieno, known for her emotional farewell to the children she cared for in Lebanon, surprised many by opting to continue working with her previous employer rather than accepting an offer to relocate to Canada.
Catherine Joe, the director of Vintmark Travel Agency, proposed a temporary nanny job with a salary of Ksh 30,000 and a sponsored student visa, but Rosie chose to stay in Lebanon.
Some Kenyans criticized her decision, emphasizing the value of education over a nanny job, while Rosie’s Lebanese boss had initially encouraged her to seize the opportunity in Canada.
Rosie, a mother of three, explained in an interview that her move to Lebanon in October 2021 was driven by personal challenges, including leaving a failing marriage in search of better opportunities for her children.
