I Will Be Vying For Governor – MP Salasya Declares

Mumias East Member of Parliament, Peter Salasya, has officially thrown his hat into the ring for the gubernatorial race in the upcoming 2027 General Election. The announcement was made through his social media platforms on Sunday, where the legislator affirmed that his decision to vie for the governorship is now irrevocable, and he is poised to appear on the ballot in the forthcoming polls.

In the 2022 General Election, Salasya secured the parliamentary seat under the banner of the Democratic Action Party Kenya (DAP-K), which is spearheaded by former Defense Cabinet Secretary, Eugene Wamalwa.

Despite his political achievements, the first-time MP has not been without controversy, as his public conduct has drawn criticism. On January 13, Salasya found himself in legal trouble when he was arrested on charges of assaulting Malaha-Isongo-Makunga MCA Peter Indimuli during a funeral held in Kakamega County.

Facing allegations of assault, causing physical harm, and creating a disturbance that could lead to a breach of peace, Salasya was granted freedom on a Ksh.50,000 bail after his apprehension. Subsequently, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has summoned him to provide a statement regarding the incident, adding a layer of scrutiny to the aspiring governor’s political journey.
