A 27-year-old man is in police custody after allegedly stabbing his wife during a heated marital dispute at her parent’s home in Kipsolu, Kericho County. The incident unfolded when the suspect traveled from Borborwet to his wife’s residence to address their domestic issues.
Despite their initial intention to resolve differences, a heated argument erupted between the couple. In the midst of the altercation, the suspect seized a knife from a nearby table and reportedly stabbed his wife on the left side of the neck.
The commotion attracted nearby residents, who rushed to the scene to find the victim lying on the floor in a pool of blood. The suspect was detained by the police as investigations began to uncover the motive behind his actions. Detectives processed and documented the crime scene, collecting evidence crucial for future court proceedings.
Tragically, the victim’s body was rushed to Kericho County Referral Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival. The body is now preserved in the same facility, awaiting autopsy.
This incident serves as a grim reminder of the prevalence of femicide cases in the country, with several women falling victim to violence at the hands of intimate partners or close acquaintances. In response to the alarming trend, activists conducted nationwide protests on Saturday, January 27, urging the government to address the pressing issue of gender-based violence and take meaningful steps toward ensuring the safety and well-being of women in the community.
