Last weekend, 24-year-old Grace Wangari lost her life after being brutally beaten by her boyfriend during a domestic dispute. The tragic event unfolded on the night of Saturday, January 20, at their rented residence in Githurai 44.
Disturbed by the sounds of screams, concerned neighbors rushed to Wangari’s aid and promptly alerted the police. The young woman, a mother of one, was rescued and initially taken to a local clinic with severe head injuries. Subsequently, she was transferred to Kiambu Level Five Hospital, where, sadly, she was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Police reports indicate that Wangari had suffered extensive bleeding by the time of her rescue and transportation to the hospital. Her boyfriend was apprehended at the scene and subsequently booked at Kasarani police cells on charges of murder. According to him, the fatal altercation stemmed from domestic differences.
Officers on foot patrol in the Githurai 44 Uncle Sam area reported responding to screams from the neighborhood that drew their attention. They successfully intervened, rescuing the 24-year-old victim from the assault. Urgently, the officers transported her, bleeding profusely, to Imani Medical Centre for immediate treatment. Later, she was transferred to Kiambu Level 5 Hospital for specialized care but tragically succumbed to her injuries upon arrival.
Upon investigation, it was revealed that Wangari had sustained deep cuts on her right buttock and minor cuts on her left arm and left leg. Both the medical center and the couple’s rented house were visited by the OCPP Githurai and the duty officer from Kasarani. Nairobi area CSI standby team meticulously processed and documented both scenes. The devastating incident serves as a stark reminder of the severity of domestic violence, urging society to address and prevent such tragic occurrences.
