Authorities have recovered a human head suspected to belong to the late Rita Waeni, a student of Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT). The head was discovered on Sunday evening at Kiambaa dam in Kiambu County.
Kiambaa police commander, Pius Mwandhi, addressing the media at the location, confirmed the grim incident, emphasizing that ongoing investigations are being conducted into this horrific case.
The tragic saga began when the mutilated body of 20-year-old Rita Waeni was found in an apartment in the Roysambu area of Nairobi on January 14, her head missing. At that time, authorities were unable to immediately ascertain the victim’s identity.
The victim’s family later stepped forward to identify Rita Waeni as the deceased. Waeni had left her aunt’s residence in Syokimau to meet a friend, only to meet a tragic fate.
Adding another layer to the already distressing narrative, the family disclosed on January 17 that, at approximately 5 am on Sunday, Rita’s father received a message purportedly from her phone number. The chilling message demanded a ransom of Ksh. 500,000 within 24 hours for the safe release of the JKUAT student.
