Detectives in Nakuru County are delving into the last movements of medical intern Laban Langat, whose final moments were captured on CCTV footage as he was ferried to Nakuru Referral Hospital by a bodaboda rider.
The CCTV footage, sourced from an entertainment establishment in London, Nakuru West, provides a glimpse into Langat’s activities on January 13. Langat is seen leaving the bar alone at 12:08 AM after spending an hour there.
Nakuru West DCIO Charles Kamau shared insights, stating, “He had come to the bar alone at around 11 PM; he stayed there for an hour before leaving.”
At 12:21 AM, the footage captures Langat staggering towards an entertainment joint at the showground junction. A security guard, Emmanuel Cheruiyot, engaged in a brief conversation with Langat, advising him to take a motorbike to the Nakuru Referral Hospital for safety reasons.
“Alikuwa amelewa nikamwambia hiyo njia ni giza nikamwambia atafute pikipiki, wa kwanza hawakuskizana bei, nikamwona amepanda pikipiki ingine akaenda, the following day nikaskia ameuwawa,” said Cheruiyot.
The bodaboda rider, identified as Dominic, reported that he dropped Langat at Nakuru Referral Hospital, receiving a Ksh.100 payment via mobile money at 12:30 AM. However, the investigation is now focused on unraveling the circumstances leading to Langat’s death, as his body was discovered merely 100 meters from where he was dropped off.
Unfortunately, the CCTV cameras at the hospital crucial for the inquiry were non-functional, complicating the efforts of the local detectives. Consequently, the case has been handed over to homicide detectives in Nairobi, who will continue probing the mysterious death of the medical intern.
